Elizabeth Pisani

Responsible data sharing and strengthening country capacity for analysis

Dr. Pisani worked on population-based studies of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and risk behavior among transgender, male, and female sex workers, drug injectors, gay men, and others at risk for HIV. She has provided support for HIV and behavioral research to several Asian governments, including Indonesia, China, the Philippines, and East Timor. Frustrated that high-quality data remained marooned on the laptops of a handful of researchers, she has worked since 2008 with the Wellcome Trust on an initiative to increase sharing of data within the scientific community.
